Virtualization Software allows a user to emulate one operating system on a different operating system. GCU Technical Support has a limited scope of service for assisting with Virtualization Software.
GCU Students are provided access to VMWare and Azure DevTools. Access to the appropriate software is provided through an automatic criteria process. This process provides access for users based on whether they are in a class that requires the use of virtualization software or not.
Registering Your Account
- If you are going to be enrolled in a class that requires you to use VMware, you would have received an invitation from info@itacademy.brightspace.com in your GCU email.
NOTE If you have not received your VMWare invitation, contact Technical Support to escalate the issue.
- Click the link within that email that says Click Here to login or register an account to proceed.
- Once on the IT Academy page, select Click Here.
- If this is the first time that you are logging in to IT Academy, select Register. If you have already registered, select Log in and skip to step 8.
- Fill out the account and contact information on the registration page. Make sure to enter your GCU email address when registering the account and then select Create Account.
- You will be asked to redeem your subscription. Select Click here to redeem to continue.
NOTE If you are not given the option to redeem the subscription, navigate back to the invite email and click on the link in that email. - A confirmation page will appear once you were able to successfully enroll in the subscription. Click where it says Click Here to continue.
NOTEThe subscription to IT Academy does not expire. However, you will need to relicense the VMWare software every year. - To get a VMware license, start by going to the upper-left corner of the My Courses page, select the Get VMWare Software & Licenses option.
- Next, select the Request Software License Key option from the drop-down menu.
- Once there, select the version of VMware needed for your course by selecting Request. If you are not sure which version to request, we suggest reaching out to your instructor for more information.
- The request will usually be approved within 24 hours. Once it has been approved, navigate to the MyVMware Portal, then click on GetVMware Software & Licenses, and select the download option you need.
- Once you have your software key and your VMware product installed, you can go to the Licensing Section of the software and input the given key. This process will vary depending on the software you are using.
NOTE These account approvals are done through IT Academy directly, which is a third-party service. If you do not receive your approval within 24 hours of your request, contact IT Academy Support for further assistance. By clicking Brightspace Support in the black toolbar at the top of your Brightspace account and selecting Contact Support to open a support ticket.
