While using the Halo Learn classroom, you can personalize your experience by updating different settings, including those related to your user profile. Currently, the My Halo Settings section offers two features: Profile, where you can view and update your personal details, and Alerts, where you can manage the notifications, you wish to receive.
The Alerts settings are currently only available to students and faculty who are part of a beta testing group. If you're not in the beta group, you won't see these settings in your account.
Accessing My Halo Settings
- To access My Halo Settings, click your name in the top right corner of the screen.
- From the dropdown menu, select My Halo Settings.
- Once you’re in the My Halo Settings page, you can view the available settings.
Your Halo Learn profile appears whenever someone clicks your profile picture in the classroom. The profile is where you can introduce yourself to others in the Halo classroom by sharing information about yourself.
- To access the profile settings, click Go To Profile from the My Halo Settings page.
- Now that you are in the profile settings, you can edit the settings of the profile. To edit your profile, click the Edit button in the top right corner. IMPORTANT When editing the profile, the information that you add should adhere to GCU’s ethical, professional, and academic standards. Inappropriate content or profile images that disrupt the learning experience will be addressed according to the University Policy Handbook’s Code of Conduct and Standards section.
- Next, you can update your Halo Preferred First Name, LinkedIn URL, Program of Study, and About Me sections.
- If you’d like to add a Profile Picture for your Halo account, you can do so by selecting Add Image.
- In the Add New Image window, click Select Image and pick your photo. Please keep in mind that you can only upload PNG or JPEG files with a maximum size of 10 MB.
- Once your picture is uploaded, you can zoom in or rotate it to adjust. If you want to choose a different image, click Change File in the top left corner.
- A preview of your image will appear in the bottom right corner. When you’re ready, press Save Image.
- To use your new profile picture, switch from My Initials to Uploaded Photo. You can update your existing image at any time by clicking Replace Image.
- After updating all your information, press Save to save the profile information.NOTE If you are a faculty member, you can only edit the About Me section of your profile from your Halo Learn classroom. If you need to adjust any other part of your profile, you will need to update the Faculty Profile and wait about 10 to 15 minutes to sync your changes.
The Halo Alerts feature in Halo helps you to stay up to date with important notifications about your courses. Follow the steps below to update your alert settings:
- To access the profile settings, click Go To Alerts from the My Halo Settings page.
- Now that you are in the alert settings, you will see two sections: Manage Alerts and Manage Devices.
- In the Manage Alerts section, you can choose which notifications you want to receive and how you would like to receive them.
- You can turn on or off notifications for new announcements and messages.
- The checkbox under In-Halo Alert will allow notifications to appear in the My Alerts sidebar panel within Halo, while selecting the checkbox under Mobile App will send the notification directly to your mobile device through the Halo Learn mobile app.
NOTE To get alerts on your phone, please make sure that push notifications are turned on.
- After adjusting any of your alert settings, click Save to apply your changes.

If you are an instructor that noticed there is information or profile picture that violates GCU Code of Conduct, it is recommended that you submit a Code of Conduct alert. And if you feel that the information needs to be removed immediately, you can reach out to GCU Technical Support to have the information looked over and potentially removed.
When editing the Halo Preferred First Name, the name is only changed for the Halo Learn classroom. If you would like to update your preferred name throughout all of the GCU systems, we do recommend that you reach out to your counselor for further assistance.
