The New Student Placement Exam helps us determine your starting enrollment level for English, Mathematics, and Spanish coursework. After you have finished your exam(s), your University Counselor will schedule you for courses based on your scores. Your University Counselor will send you an email with the link to the placement exams, but just in case, the website for the placement exams is placement-exams.gcu.edu. Accessing Placement Exams Navigate to placement-exams.gcu.edu and click Student Access. Enter your GCU email address (@my.gcu.edu). After entering your GCU email address, click Next. The next screen will ask for your password. Enter the same password that you use to log into the Student Portal and then click Sign in. NOTE If you are having trouble logging into your GCU account, we recommend checking out our Basic Troubleshooting article for more information about common sign-in issues. You should now be logged in. You will have the option to take an English, Mathematics, and/or Spanish placement exam. Taking Placement Exams Before taking an official placement exam, you have the option to take a practice exam. It is recommended to try a practice exam before taking an official placement exam because you have a max of 2 attempts for each placement exam. NOTE There are only practice exams for English and Mathematics. There is no practice exam for Spanish. To start a practice exam, click the Practice button. To start a placement exam, click the Exam button. Then, it will ask you for your login information. You can login with either your GCU username or GCU email address, and the password that you use to log into the Student Portal. NOTE If you are having trouble logging into the placement exam, we recommend checking out our Basic Troubleshooting article for more information about common sign-in issues. Once logged in, read the instructions. At the bottom of the instructions, check the box indicating that you understand and accept the terms of the test. Then, select Begin Exam. NOTE If you lose internet connection while taking the placement exam, the internet icon at the top of the page will turn red. If this happens, we recommend checking out the What do I do if I lose internet connection during an exam? accordion below for more information. After completing the exam, click Submit Answers. After successfully submitting the exam, you may close the window. FAQ What do I do if I lose internet connection during an exam? If you lose internet connection while taking the placement exam, the internet icon at the top of the page will turn red. If you would like to continue taking the exam, read the message and check the box on this page. Then, click Continue Offline. You will be able to continue the exam even though you are not connected to the internet. Once you finish the exam, you will see the following page. Do not close, refresh the page, or clear your cache and cookies. Once you have internet connection again, you will be able to submit the exam. If you close or refresh the page, all answers you have entered will be lost, and you will need to restart the exam from the beginning after a 24-hour waiting period. Keep in mind that if you restart your computer, you will have to restart the exam from the beginning. How many attempts do I have for each placement exam? Students are allowed up to two attempts for each exam. If you have evidence of a technical issue that occurred while taking a placement exam, you can contact your UC or SSC to request a third attempt. How long do I have to wait to take an exam a second time? There is a minimum of 24 hours between each attempt. Attempts are marked as soon as you launch the exam. If you leave the exam, press the back button, or have technical difficulties, you will have to wait 24 hours before you can take the exam again. If this is the case, you will see a message after logging in letting you know how much longer you have to wait.
