Have you ever wished there was a way to recover your saved passwords? Some browsers will allow you to view your saved passwords!
Windows
- Click on the menu button in the upper right-hand corner of Firefox.
- On the menu, select Passwords.
- On the left-hand side of the Logins and Password (or the Firefox Lockwise page), look for the website from which you want to recover your password.
- Once selected, you will have options to either show (eye-icon) or copy your password. Click on the eye-icon to reveal your password.
NOTE If on a page where a password is saved, there may be a key icon to the left of the star in the address bar. Selecting Manage passwords from the resulting menu will skip to step 4.
- Click on the Three-Dot menu in the upper right-hand corner of Google Chrome.
- On the pop-up window, click on the Passwords and Autofill option.
- Then select Google Password Manager.
NOTE If you do not see the Google Password Manager option, you may need to install it first. To do that, click on the Install Google Password Manager option, which is also found in the three-dot menu.
- You will reach the Passwords page and see a list of websites for which you have saved passwords. Click on the arrow icon next to the password you would like to see.
NOTE If you need to search for your GCU password, type “Microsoft” in the Search Passwords bar at the top of the page. The website title, login.microsoftonline.com, should appear if you saved your GCU password when signing into the GCU Portal.
- If the computer requires a password to sign in, the Windows Security box will appear prompting you to enter the computer password.
- On the new page, click on the Eye Icon to reveal the saved password.
- Open the Start Menu and search for “Control Panel”.
- Select User Accounts.
NOTE If your Control Panel does not look like what is showed above, check to make sure that your view is set to Category. - Then, select Credential Manager.
- Locate and select the website that you need to recover the password from under Web Passwords.
- Select the Show to the right of the password for the selected website.
- If prompted to verify credentials, sign in with your computer login information.
- Click the Settings and more menu in the top right corner of Microsoft Edge.
- Select Settings from the dropdown menu.
- Select Profiles under the Settings section on the left and then select Passwords under Your profile.
- Your passwords will be under Saved passwords; to view them select the eye icon.
- If prompted to verify credentials, sign in with your computer login information.
Mac
- Open the Menu (or the three horizontal lines) in the upper right-hand corner of Firefox. Then select Passwords.
- On the left-hand side of the Logins and Password (or the Firefox Lockwise) page, navigate for the website from which you want to recover your password.
- Once selected, you will have options to either show (eye-icon) or copy your password. Click on the eye-icon to reveal your password.
- Click on the Three-Dot menu in the upper right-hand corner of Google Chrome.

On the pop-up window, click on the Passwords and Autofill option.
- Then select Google Password Manager.

- A security box may appear prompting you to enter a password. Simply enter the password you use to log into your computer and click OK.

- To view saved passwords in Safari, click Safari in the upper left-hand corner of the screen and select Preferences.
- Within the Preferences window, navigate to the Passwords tab.
- The Passwords tab may ask you to enter a password. Simply enter the password you use to log into your computer and press Enter.
- Once unlocked, the Passwords tab will show you a list of websites with your saved passwords. Click on the website from where you want to get your password to see the password.
Mobile Devices
In addition to desktop and laptop browsers, you can also recover your saved passwords on mobile devices, although the process may be different depending on the type of device and the browser that you use. Unfortunately, GCU Technical Support has a very limited scope of service with mobile devices.
