When troubleshooting connection issues, a network trace can provide us valuable insight into what’s happening behind the scenes as your browser communicates with a website. This article will guide you through the steps to capture a network trace across different browsers and devices. These instructions will help you gather the information needed to diagnose and resolve issues efficiently. NOTE Technicians, this article is useful for issues with submitting discussion questions and assignments to Halo. We will go through this whenever we need to escalate an issue to the Halo team. IMPORTANT Keep in mind that the network trace will include sensitive data and should not be shared to anyone who is not part of GCU Technical Support. Expand/Collapse All Windows Edge Start by opening the DevTools in Microsoft Edge. To open the DevTools, click the 3 dots in the top right corner Select More Tools Then select Developer Tools Click the 3 dots to the right corner of the Developer Tools. Click on Settings. Scroll down to the Global settings and turn on the setting Auto-open DevTools for popups. Click the X to close the settings. Next, select the Network tab After opening the Network tab, the browser will start to record the activity. Try to replicate the issue that you are experiencing. Once you replicate the issue, export the trace by clicking the Download button Once the file has finished downloading, make sure to rename with the format: date_username.har Next, you can send the file to Technical Support for them to look into this further. Chrome Start by opening the DevTools in Google Chrome. Mac Safari To open the DevTools, we need to enable the option. Select Safari in the top-right corner Next, select Settings to open the Safari preferences window Go to the Advanced tab and select Show features for web developers Select Develop from the menu bar Select Connect Web Inspector The Developer Tools will appear, select the Network Tab Refresh your page and replicate the issue. Once you replicate the issue, click Export to export the trace Once the file has finished downloading, make sure to rename with the format: date_username.har Next, you can send the file to Technical Support for them to look into this further. NOTE If you are running a network trace and a new window opens, you will need to right click in the window and reopen the DevTools for the new window.
