A pop-up blocker is a feature in browsers that limits or blocks pop-ups from websites. This can block you from accessing links such as eBooks or the Email link inside of the Portal. We suggest adding our websites to the list of sites to accept pop-ups from. Here is guide on how to add them in each browser!
There are two versions of Microsoft Edge. See the appropriate steps below depending on what version you have.
Microsoft Edge
- With Microsoft Edge open, click on the Settings and more icon (three dots in a horizontal line at the top of the bar).
- Select Settings.
- Once the Settings tab opens, click on Cookies and site permissions on the left-hand side and select Pop-ups and redirects.
- Click on Add under the Allow heading.
- In the Add a site dialog, type [*.]gcu.edu and click Add. The asterisk (*) before gcu.edu will allow all GCU sites without needing to individually add them.
- After you are finished, restart Edge.
Microsoft Edge Legacy
Microsoft Edge Legacy does not allow you to create pop-up blocker exceptions for individual websites. However, the pop-up blocker can be disabled altogether:
- Click the menu (• • •) button in the top right corner of the browser window.
-
Click Settings.
-
Locate View advanced settings at the bottom of the Settings menu.
-
Switch the slider for Block pop-ups to Off.
- After you are finished, restart Edge.
- To access and adjust Firefox pop-up exceptions, click the Menu button in the upper right-hand corner and choose Settings from the menu.
- Select the Privacy & Security panel and scroll down to Permissions. Select Exceptions next to Block pop-up windows.
- On the Allowed Sites – Pop-ups dialog box, type https://gcu.edu in the Address of website and click Allow. This will allow all GCU sites without needing to individually add them.
- After you are finished, click Save Changes.
- You may need to restart the browser for the changes to start accepting pop-ups.
Through View Site Information:
- Click on View Site Information to the left of the address bar.
- Click on the Site settings at the bottom of the resulting drop-down menu.
- Click on the setting next to Popups and redirects and change to Allow. This will allow pop ups for the site listed beneath Search settings.
- Reload the page for the new settings to go into effect.
Through Settings:
- To manually allow pop-ups for our sites, start by clicking the Chrome menu in the upper-right side of the browser.
- Select Settings.
- Click on Privacy and security on the left panel.
- In the Privacy and security section, click the Site Settings button.
- Scroll down and select the Pop-ups and redirects section. Under Allow, select ADD.
- Under Site, enter [*.]gcu.edu. The asterisk [*.] before gcu.edu will allow all GCU sites without needing to individually add them.
- When you are finished, select ADD.
- You may need to restart the browser for the changes to start accepting pop-ups.
If you are using macOS Ventura or above, follow these steps to enable pop-ups on just GCU sites:
- Make sure you have navigated to gcu.edu before adjusting any preferences.
- To access and adjust the Safari pop-up settings, click Safari from the top-left of the Menu Bar and select Settings.
- Next, select the Websites tab.
- Once in the Websites section, locate Pop-up Windows category from the navigation pane on the left.
- Next, on the Allow pop-up windows on the websites below pane, select Allow next to the GCU related website.
- After you are finished, close the window and restart Safari.
If you are using macOS High Sierra, an older macOS, or the steps above did not work for you, you can follow the following instructions to enable pop-ups on all sites. Keep in mind, these steps do not work on macOS Mojave:
- To access and adjust the Safari pop-up settings, click Safari from the top-left of the Menu Bar and select Preferences. You can do this on any web page.
- Navigate to the Security tab and uncheck Block pop-up windows to allow pop-ups on all websites. Remember, you can always come back to this page and check the box to block all pop-ups.
