While GCU Technical Support is here to assist you with any technical issues you may experience during your degree program, the best resource for research-related questions is research.gcu.edu. The website serves as a central hub for all information about research at GCU. If you have a question that isn't related to a technical issue, we recommend checking out research.gcu.edu first.
Applications that are deemed to be Quality Improvement (QI) projects do not require an IRB application, review, and IRB designation. Therefore, a QI Survey exists within the GCU iRIS application to enable applicants to obtain timely approval.
If the responses to the QI Survey indicate that the submission is QI, then the QI application questions will appear automatically. If the responses to the QI Survey indicate that the submission reflects research, then the system will present an IRB application automatically.
Revising the Application Type
The QI analyst will decide if the application falls under the category of human subject research or if it is non-research Quality Improvement. If they determine that the submission does not fit the criteria for an IRB review, they may request revisions to enable the QI application or vice versa. The steps below will demonstrate how to complete these revision requests.
- Log into iRIS and select Submission Response from within the Study Assistant window.
- Click the Pencil and Pad icon next to the study you want to revise.
- The Review Response Form will generate. Scroll down to the Requested Revisions and Comments section. Review any comments from the reviewer, as they will tell you specifically what needs to be revised. Then, select the Revise Existing button.
- A message will appear to confirm your selection. Click OK to continue.
- If a new version of the GCU application form has been created since your original submission, you may be asked to convert. If so, select OK and/or Convert to New Form Version.
- Locate the section and question(s) that were indicated by the reviewer. In this example, the reviewer noted that Question 6.5 needed to be changed from No to Yes.
- Click Save Section at the top of the page. A message will appear indicating that you need to continue through the rest of the application to address all of the new sections. Click OK and proceed through the application.
