Troubleshooting Microsoft Project through Citrix Mac Client
If you are using a Mac to access Microsoft Project through Citrix, you might encounter an error such as The Printer connection isn’t working. Check your printer connections, and then try again.
This error occurs because Microsoft Project depends on printer drivers to create the PDF document. To resolve the issue, go to File and then select Print on the left-hand side. In the print menu, you should see No Printers Installed. Click this drop-down menu and select Add Printer…
From there, a Find Printers dialogue will appear that can be used to find a printer. Click the Find Now button and a list of printers will appear. Select any printer from the list and press Ok. You might see a Do you trust this printer? message. If so, press the Install driver button to continue.
Now that a printer has been added try going through the steps above.
If you are unable to save your file as a .mpp or export it as a PDF file, you can try saving the file as an Excel document. Make sure to talk with your instructor before submitting the Project as an Excel file.
- Click on the File tab, then select Export.
- On the Export screen, click on Save Project as File.
- Select Microsoft Excel Workbook and then Save As.
- The save window will appear, click This PC.
- After you select This PC, you will have several drives available. Select the Local Disk (C: on device name).
NOTE You will have at least two Local Disk (C:) drives in the export window. To successfully export your file to your computer, you must choose the C drive associated with your device name. The drive titled Local Disk (C:) with no additional information is the Citrix C drive. If you choose this drive, you will not be able to locate your file. - Next, click Users.
- Access your personal profile.
- You will have a list of locations to choose from; select your desired location. Click Save.
- The Export Wizard will appear. Click Next.
- You will be asked what format you would like to export your data as. Select Selected Data and then click Next.
- You will be asked to create a new map or existing map. Select New map and then click Next.
- You will be asked what data you would like to export. Check the desired data types and click Next. If you are unsure of your data types, select all three.
- You will need to add each column of data you would like to export. Under the column From: Microsoft Project Field, click (Click here to map a field) to view the drop-down menu.
NOTE You can search for your specific data type by typing part of the name after clicking the drop-down menu. - Once you have all your data added, you can preview the information in the Preview section below. When done, click Finish.
- The file is now exported. To locate the file, you will have to access your OSDisk (C:) under This PC in the File Explorer.
NOTE If you are a Mac user, you will access your Macintosh HD through Finder, then select your User and personal profile. If you do not have your Macintosh HD available through Finder, you may need to add it. Navigate to the article Adding the Mac Hard Drive to Your Desktop to do so.
- Select Users, and then access your personal profile.
- Select the location you chose (in Step 7) and your file will be visible.
When you try to save the file in Microsoft Project, you may get an error message that says, “This operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Please contact your system administrator”. If you receive this error message, it is because you are saving the file on the wrong Local Disk (C:) drive. When saving your file onto your computer, make sure you select the Local Disk (C: on ) with your computer name. Saving to this specific drive also ensures that you can access the file directly from your computer outside of Microsoft Project.
