Some programs require students to access applications within Citrix Workspace. These applications include SPSS, Microsoft Project, and the SPSS Modeler. Please read the instructions below to prepare your computer to use these programs in Citrix Workspace.
If you've been a student at GCU for a few years, you may have an older version of Citrix, such as the Citrix Receiver, already installed. If this is the case, you can either continue to use that program or update to the newest version. The old version is still compatible with these applications.
NOTEFull-time faculty members and staff who need to utilize SPSS on their personal devices should use the downloadable version of the software. Using the Citrix version on a personal device (with your staff login credentials) will not allow you to access personal files. See Downloading and Installing SPSS for assistance instead. If you are a full-time faculty or staff using a GCU-issued device, you can utilize either version of the software.
Please follow the following instructions below to install Citrix Workspace.
NOTEThe Citrix Workspace app is offered for Chromebooks and mobile devices through the appropriate app store. However, GCU Technical Support cannot guarantee that the mobile app will work with the programs offered by GCU. If you experience issues while using the Citrix Workspace app on your mobile device, we recommend switching to a Windows or Mac computer. Chromebooks are not compatible with all GCU websites and applications, and therefore we have a limited scope of service in regard to supporting them. See GCU Technical Requirements for more information.
A drop-down menu will appear, click on the second Workspace App for Windows or Mac.
Click on the most recent version of the Citrix Workspace app for Windows or Mac.
On the next page, select Download Citrix Workspace app for Windows or Mac.
The program will begin downloading. Please select the appropriate icon below for steps on installing the program.
Depending on your browser, go to the install pop-up that appears and click Run (in Internet Explorer) or Save File (in Firefox). Both Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge will automatically start downloading the install file.
Once the download is complete, you can click on the downloaded file in your browser or you can double-click the install file in your Downloads folder to start the installation process. Additionally, there will be another pop up asking if you want to allow this app to make changes? Click Yes in order to continue the installation process. You will see a Citrix Workspace App pop-up box; click Start and follow the prompts to finish the installation.
Place a check next to I accept the license agreement and select Next.
If you receive a message asking if you would like to enable App protection, it's recommended that you do not enable it; however, this is optional. Click Install to continue.
If prompted to enable single sign-on, do NOT place a check in the box and select Install. Enabling single sign-on may create log in issues in the future, so it's not recommended.
The installation may take a few minutes.
After the installation is complete, you will receive a notification. Once it's finished, click Add Account.
NOTEIf you are prompted to restart your computer, please do so. Once your computer is back up, open your Start Menu and search for Citrix Workspace to open. Citrix may automatically open once your computer restarts.
On the Add Account dialog-box, enter https://myapps.gcu.edu in the space provided as the server address. Then click Continue.
Finally, you will be asked to enter your GCU username and password.
In the Username field, enter your GCU username (you do not need to include @my.gcu.edu at the end)
For example: jlope1
In the Password field, enter your GCU password.
NOTEIf you receive an Incorrect user name or password error, try entering your username in this format: GCU\username
Click Sign In to finish the installation process.
After you click Log On, the Select Your Account window will appear and will prompt you to select an account. Select GCUStore.
Once you select the GCUStore, the Citrix Workspace App will be ready to run your applications.
On a Mac computer, the .dmg file appears in the Mac Downloads folder. Click the folder and select the CitrixWorkspaceApp.dmg file. When prompted, click Install Citrix Workspace.
If asked to keep your computer secure, it is safe to select Continue.
Proceed to follow the instructions provided by the Workspace Installer by selecting Continue on the Introduction screen.
On the License screen, click Continue. A window asking you to agree to the terms of the software license agreement may appear, click to Agree to proceed.
The installation location is chosen for you automatically. Click Change Install Location if you would like to do so. Select Install to begin the installation.
Enter your Mac Administrator username and password, then select Install Software.
After the installation, you may be prompted to Add Account. Leave the Add Account box unchecked and click Continue.
Once the installation is complete, click Close.
You may be asked to move the installer to the Trash once the installation is completed. If so, you can click either Keep or Move to Trash, depending on your preference.
Next, locate the Citrix Workspace app from within your Applications folder. You will be asked to enter a work email or server address. Enter https://myapps.gcu.edu and click Add.
You will be asked to enter your GCU username and password. (If you are not automatically asked to enter this information, attempt to open any application and the prompt will appear).
In the Username field, enter your GCU username (you do not need to include @my.gcu.edu at the end).
For example: jlope1
In the Password field, enter your GCU password.
NOTE If you receive an Incorrect user name or password error, try entering your username in this format: GCU\username

Uploading files to Halo
Only certain file types can be uploaded into Halo. This restriction exists to ensure that your instructors can properly view your assignments. The default file type when saving in SPSS Modeler is .str for stream files; however, this file type is NOT accepted by Halo. To upload your SPSS Modeler assignment, you will need to either zip the file or export the output as a different file type. For more information on zipping your assignment, check out our article, How to Zip and Un-Zip Your Files.
After running a stream, your results can be viewed as an output. Outputs can be exported into various file types, including .doc, .pdf, .xlsx, and more. Technical Support has a limited scope of service for SPSS Modeler, and therefore we recommend reviewing the resources linked below for assistance with exporting outputs into specific file types.
If the resources listed above don’t provide the information you need, we recommend reaching out to your instructor for more assistance. If there’s a specific file type you need to export as, they should be able to provide direction on how to do so.
Project 2016 management software enables Project team members to manage tasks, collaborate, submit time sheets, and flag issues and risks. These courses may include (but may not be limited to) BIT-415, BIT-445, HCA-620, MGT-440, MGT-640, MGT-665, and MGT-670, and may be subject to change.
To access Microsoft Project, you can use the Citrix Workspace App. The Citrix Workspace App must be installed on each device you want to use to access Project. If you are required to use Microsoft Project for classwork, it should automatically be available through Citrix. However, if you do not have access to Microsoft Project (and it is required to complete classwork), please contact Technical Support. We can only provide access if your course details specify that you need to use Project. We cannot provide access if you want to use Project to complete your coursework or if your instructor wants you to submit a Project file, but the course does not require it.
To access Microsoft Project, simply access Citrix Workspace and click Project. Then click Open.
When opening Project, the following prompts may appear depending on your operating system and browser.
If you receive the prompt: An online application is attempting to access information on a device attached to your computer, click Permit use.
If you receive the prompt: The command prompt has been disabled by your administrator. Press any key to continue, click the X in the upper right corner.
NOTE: If you select Block access in the first prompt, you are restricted from saving Project files to your Local Disk (C:) and will instead receive an error message that you do not have permission to save files there. If this happens, simply close the Citrix Workspace App, re-open the program, and choose Permit use when prompted. However, if you placed a checkmark in the box next to Do not ask me again for this site, you will need to uninstall and reinstall the program before you can save your files.
If it appears that only one monitor is working, or the screen on one of your monitors goes black, unplug a monitor and reopen MS Project to see if it works. Make sure that your computer is also fully up to date.
