In some classes, GCU offers quizzes and assessments through an external learning tool called GCU Tester. This Learning Tool Integration (LTI) allows students to access assessments that were created outside of the Halo classroom and after students complete these assessments their grades will be synced.
At this time, if you are in the CWV courses and some NSG courses you will see assessments that are available through the GCE Tester. This article will help you with some of the basic processes in GCE Tester, but we do recommend checking out the GCE Tester Knowledge Base for more information.
The assessments within the GCE Tester are automatically graded and created, and you wouldn’t need to create or grade the assessments. However, you might have to access the assessment to reopen the assessment, or even find the password for the assessment.
To access the assessment through the GCE Tester, click on
the assessment to open
the details of the assessment and select the
Open Assignment
button.
You will be directed to the Test Offering page. From this page, you can adjust the assessment, find the test password, and see any accommodations for your students.
The assessment’s access periods are by default set to the assessments start and due date in Halo. You may have students trying to complete the assessments after the due date. If you would like to open the assessment after the due date for a specific student, first open the Test Offering page.
Next, you will want to select the Exceptions
tab.
After opening the exceptions tab, select the
student’s name
that you would like
to adjust the settings for.
After selecting the name, you can adjust the time availability,
how long the
assessment runs for, the password, and also the number of
attempts you provide
to them. To adjust one of the settings, select the appropriate
button.
After adjusting the assessment, press the
Save Changes button
to the left of
the assessment details.
If you need to remove an adjustment, select the X
in the
top right corner and
then click Save Changes again.
There may be times that the assessment requires a password for the students to complete. If the students need a password, they should be able to find the password within the assessment details or the syllabus. However, if they can’t find the password, you can find it in the GCE Tester.
First open the Test Offering page.
There, you should a section labeled Password.
This section
is the password for
the whole class when they take the assessment.
If you do not have anything listed in the password field,
we recommend checking
the Exceptions tab. Sometimes a password
was set for individual
students and
the Exceptions tab will show you which students have a password,
and which do
not. On the Exceptions tab, look for the type labeled
Password.
Accommodations are automatically applied to the assessment
when the student accesses
the assessment. To view the accommodations, open the assessment
in the GCE Tester.
After accessing the assessment, select the
Exceptions tab.
You should now see the type of exceptions provided to the
students. Click on
the student’s name to view more details
about their accommodation.
