The GCU SPSS Server allows you to access SPSS without the need to install the program on your personal computer. You will instead install the Citrix Receiver and use SPSS through the internet. Before beginning, let's prepare your computer by creating an SPSS folder.
Preparing for SPSS files
To create the SPSS folder, start by navigating to your main drive, normally your Local Disk (C:). You can do this by clicking on the Windows key, selecting Computer, and then double-clicking on Local Disk (C:). Next, right-click and hover over New and choose Folder. Name the new folder _SPSS.
If you are using a Mac, click Finder and select Macintosh HD. Once there, choose File > New Folder or press Command (⌘)–Shift–N. To give the folder a new name, click to select it and press Return. Then type _SPSS and press Return again.
Once the folder is created, be sure to move all of your SPSS (.sav) files into this folder.
Installing Citrix Receiver
Next, navigate to https://myapps.gcu.edu/ and log in with your GCU username and password.
You may see an Install button, which will prompt you to download the Citrix Receiver. Citrix Receiver is a small program that you will use to open SPSS. Check the box I agree with the Citrix license agreement and click the Install button. If you have pop-up blockers enabled, you may not see the check-box.
NOTE If you have already installed Citrix Receiver on your computer, click the Log on link instead.
After clicking on Install, a download will begin and you will be prompted to Confirm installation is complete. Before clicking Continue, you will run the installation file.
When the download begins, directions for starting the installation will appear on the screen. Depending on your browser, go to the install pop-up that appears and click Run (in Internet Explorer), Setup (in Chrome), or Save File (in Firefox). Additionally, there will be another pop-up asking if you want to allow this app to make changes? Click Yes in order to continue the download.
Once the download is complete, double-click the install file to start the installation process. You will see a Citrix Receiver pop-up box; click Start and follow the prompts to finish the installation.
After you have completed the installation, return to the Citrix ZenApp page at myapps.gcu.edu and click on the Continue button.
Once signed in, click on the + symbol on the left-hand side of the page to add SPSS to your favorite apps.
With the menu expanded, select All Apps and then select SPSS. Selecting SPSS from the menu will create an app icon for SPSS in the middle of your Applications window. Click on the new app icon to open SPSS.
NOTE It may take a few moments for SPSS to load, so please do not click the SPSS app icon more than once.

When opening SPSS, the following prompt may appear depending on your operating system and browser; if so, click Permit use. To prevent this warning from popping up again, check the box for Do not ask me again for this site.
If you are prompted to select the encoding, select Use Unicode Encoding.
Once SPSS is finished loading, you will see the SPSS launch screen, which prompts you to Open another file. You may select files from this menu or you can click Close.
If you click Close, your screen will not display any data, but you can open your SPSS files by clicking File > Open > Data.
A new pop-up window may appear asking if you would like to allow access. Click Permit all access. To prevent this warning from popping up again, check the box for Do not ask me again for this site, if available.
From this menu, click the down arrow and select your Local Disk (C$) and open your SPSS folder. Find the SPSS file you would like to open and click Open.
